What we fit around the town

Cumbernauld is a town of very different housing in a small space — new-town estates from the 60s and 70s, older property round the Village, and newer estates on the edges. What a house needs depends far more on which of those it is than on anything else.

Abronhill, Craigmarloch and Carrickstone

We're on Spruce Road in Abronhill, so a good share of our work is a five minute drive from the van. Older Abronhill housing tends to be on its second set of frames by now — often 1990s or early 2000s uPVC that has started to fail at the seals rather than rot. That's usually a glass unit job, not a whole window.

Cumbernauld Village and Condorrat

The older stone and traditional properties round the Village need a different eye — sizes vary opening to opening and nothing is square. Everything we fit is measured to the opening rather than ordered off a standard size list, which is what that kind of house needs.

Kildrum, Seafar, Ravenswood and the other new-town estates

The 1960s and 70s new-town builds are where we spend a lot of our door time — tired original-format front and back doors, and a lot of exposed, wind-hammered elevations. Composite and uPVC doors both suit them; which one makes sense depends on the opening and how sheltered it is.

Westfield, Balloch and Eastfield

Newer estates on the edge of town, usually still on their first set of windows and doors. The common jobs here are upgrading a builder-standard front door, adding bifolds or patio sliding doors onto a rear extension, or swapping one blown unit that has gone cloudy.

Why local actually matters here

Wind and weather on an exposed town

Cumbernauld sits high and catches the weather, which is why so many of the calls we get here are about draughts round a door, a door dropping on its hinges, or condensation sitting inside the glass. Those three things have three different fixes and only one of them is a new window.

Replace the pane, not the frame

If your double glazing has gone cloudy or misted, the seal has failed — not necessarily the window. Where the frame is sound, only the glass unit may need swapped rather than the full window.
